Debra G. Gómez

Debra G. Gómez, along with her Mummy, father, and brother, immigrated from Barbados to the United States when she was 13 years old. She attended high school in Florida before enrolling at Mercer University with her brother, Ian S. Gómez, who is also a practicing attorney with his own firm in St. Petersburg, Florida. Both siblings are proud “Double Bears,” having attended Mercer for both their undergraduate and law degrees.

Ms. Gómez was an Army ROTC Cadet at Mercer University. Shortly before completing her undergraduate degree, Ms. Gómez became a 2nd LT. in the United States Army, where she was first designated as an Air Defense Artillery Officer. However, before entering active duty the Army allowed Ms. Gómez to attend law school and then into the Judge Advocate General’s Corps on active duty as a Captain. During her service, she was deployed with the 1st Calvary Division out of Ft. Hood Texas to Operation Desert Storm and earned a Bronze Star for her contributions.

Following her military service, Ms. Gómez returned to practice law alongside the late Althea L. Buafo. In 1999, she established the Gómez Law Group, LLC. Throughout her career, she has practiced criminal defense at the highest levels across the state of Georgia, including all federal courts. While she has extensive experience in criminal defense, she has also maintained a strong focus on personal injury law. Her dedication to this area of practice began during her time with Buafo & Gómez and has since grown into a primary concentration.

Though she never imagined becoming a parent, Ms. Gómez is a devoted mother to three children. Her law office is located near the school she once attended, and today, the Gómez Law Group, LLC is a strong 9-person team committed to vigorously fighting for the rights of others.
